Recall Issued On Ground Beef, Frozen Chicken Meals

A Kansas company has recalled approximately 50,000 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli, the U.S. Department ofAgriculture announced Wednesday.

No illnesses have been reported linked to the consumption of the meat, which was produced by National Beef Packing Company of Liberal, Kan.

The beef was sold in 40 to 60 pound cases to retailers, wholesalers, and food service distributors nationwide, USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a release. The product carries the establishment number "EST. 208A" Inside the USDA mark of inspection.

E. coli is a potentially deadly bacteria that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in severe cases, kidney failure. It is considered an adulterant in raw beef.

Also on Wednesday, the USA issued a recall on 2,486 pounds of frozen chicken meals because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The products contain milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label. The product is manufactured by Traditions which is located in Mississippi.

The item recalled: a three-compartment tray containing "Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast Filet with Rib Meat Smoke Flavor Added / Mixed Vegetables / Basil and Garlic Fettuccine" bearing the establishment number "P-13850" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced and packaged on Oct. 5, 2012, Dec 19, 2012 and Jan. 28, 2013.
