Mayville, NY - Several hundred people are expected to attend the second annual Chautauqua Lake Bigfoot Expo this weekend, which will feature some of the nation 's preeminent sasquatch researchers and authors.

They include Steve Kulls, Founder of and Billy Willard, Director of Sasquatch Watch of Virginia.

Kulls claims to have had several encounters with the mysterious beings, which he describes as large primates who walk in an erect fashion and have an odor like a wet dog.

Willard, though he has never actually seen a bigfoot, believes in their existence based on his research and interviews of persons who claim to have seen them.

"I've talked to a lot of folks who have physical reactions when they discuss, it so I do believe there is something there," he said.

He hopes others will come forward to share their stories at the Bigfoot Expo.

"They know that this is a place they can come to and actually share information and not get ridiculed for it," he said.

Event organizer Peter Wiemer doesn't expect any attendees to show up wearing costumes, such as is common at a Star Wars convention.

"Most of them take this very seriously," Wiemer told WGRZ-TV. "We wrote a letter to the New York State DEC commissioner last July, requesting them to enact a law protecting bigfoots." Wiemer says he eventually heard back from the Chief Wildlife Biologist. "He told us they don't create laws based on mythical animals and that bigfoots don't exist anywhere in the world today."
