Orangeburg County, SC (WLTX) - An Orangeburg teacher is out on bond after Holly Hill police say he hit a 12-year-old girl in the face.

"She just wants to know why he hit her," said the victim's mother.

Monday students filled the hallways at Holly Hill Middle School as they changed classes. That's when officers say 62-year-old Lionel Stukes hit a 12-year-old student in the face.

The victim's mother spoke to WLTX News19, but wanted to protect the identity of her child and did not want to appear on camera.

"I saw the surveillance video and it looked like he hit her and it looked like he tried to hit her twice," said the mother.

Officers say when they questioned Stukes he said he was playing with the student and hitting her was an accident.

The victim and other students told investigators that he hit her on purpose. The girl's mother said when Stukes appeared in bond court she expected him to apologize.

"I would think he would explain why or give us a reason why he hit her, but he didn't have anything to say."

Now she is hoping that this incident doesn't make her daughter afraid of other teachers, she wants Stukes to be fired.

"Every morning when she wakes up she is like I don't want to go to school. She asked me is he going to be there. I had to call the school and let her hear them say he is not going to be there when she comes."

WLTX contacted to school district for a comment and they said that this is a ongoing investigation and had no comment.

The mother said that Stukes is on leave until he appears in court, but the district did not confirm if they've taken any action.
