Melbourne, FL (Florida Today) -- Two juveniles were arrested on Wednesday after they allegedly stole a motorcycle from a Palm Bay home and then fled from police before being caught in Melbourne.
Their actions caused a crash that injured a motorcyclist, according to Palm Bay police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez.
Martinez said a resident in the 3200 block of Haddon Avenue NE called and reported a burglary in progress at a home next door. She said multiple suspects fled the residence in a stolen red Dodge Intrepid and on a motorcycle taken from the home's garage.
Police spotted the vehicle and followed. The motorcycle was found nearby and had apparently been ditched by one of the suspects.
Martinez said the Dodge was driving erratically and caused an uninvolved motorcyclist to crash on R.J. Conlon Boulevard, suffering "non life threatening injuries."
The suspect vehicle continued on, eventually crashing into some mailboxes and a home on Saxon Street in South Melbourne. Melbourne Police were on alert when they spotted the vehicle in their jurisdiction.
Four people ditched the car and fled on foot.
Two of the four were arrested, both were 17. Palm Bay police will charge them with burglary, grand theft, resisting arrest, and hit and run with serious injury. Melbourne police are investigating crimes that occurred in their jurisdiction, and may charge the teens with fleeing law enforcement officers and an accident involving a residence and property damage, according to Sgt. Jamie Rocque.
The incident began about 1:15 p.m. A Brevard County Sheriff's helicopter helped search for the suspects.
