GREENSBORO -- If there were a few extra people missing from school, or work on Tuesday, it could be because those people stayed up all night playing the latest video game.

'Call of Duty: Black Ops II' was released on Tuesday at midnight and fans from around the U.S. and world lined up to grab their game and go home to play it.

WFMY News 2 put the 'Call of Duty' Franchise in perspective by comparing it the Harry Potter movie franchise.

REVIEW: 'Call of Duty: Black Ops II'

The Harry Potter movie franchise made about $2.4 billion. The 'Call of Duty' franchise has made more than $6 billion in its 10-year life. According to Wedbush Securities, 'Call of Duty' creators expect the new 'Black Ops II' game to add another $1.2 billion to the franchise this year.

Last year's 'Call of Duty' title set a new first day record of more than $400 million in revenue, making it the biggest entertainment product launch.

Video Game Media expert and associate professor from High Point University, Stefan Hall said the video game industry is recession proof, but critics are worried because sales are a little off this year.

Hall also told WFMY News 2 that gamers all have a common thread: they like the ability to go into a fictional world, with an active imagination.
