Donors pay for the Republican National Convention, but you pay for other costs surrounding the event.
The host committee of each convention town is a not-for profit. They raise money to pay for the use of the convention center, the food, the goody bags and the electricity. That's a $55 million budget.
But the federal government used taxpayer money to give a $50 million grant to cover some other costs.
That grant is used for things like extra security, their uniforms, gear, insurance and fire hydrant protectors.
