Man Surrenders After Barricading Himself In Greensboro Home

Police have taken a man into custody after they say he barricaded himself inside his home with a gun for at least six hours.

According to Susan Danielsen with the Police Department, Brooks Lancaster barricaded himself inside a room on the second floor of his house on Friendly Avenue on Tuesday.

Police said Lancaster has a history of mental illness.

Lancaster's family called police for assistance around 5:28 p.m. after becoming concerned about he would harm himself. Police said there is no one else in the house with Lancaster.

Police used their hostage negotiation team to try and communicate with Lancaster. After unsuccessful attempts, they were able to go inside the home.

Lancaster surrendered just before midnight, according to the police department.

Traffic on West Friendly Avenue between Jefferson Avenue and Kemp Road was diverted while police were handling the situation.
