Monterrey, Mexico  -  The Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon has broken a new world record. More than 7,000 students joined together and read a poem at the same time. They brought to life Alfonso Reyes' masterpiece called "Monterrey's Sun".

"I think it's an important cultural aspect of the University and we did it with an emblematic part, an emblematic character," Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon President Jesus Ancer Rodriguez said. "Mr. Alfonso Reyes, the universal regiomontano that gave us his vote and then Nuevo Leon University was established. Now it's called the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon."

The event occurred in the 80th anniversary of the University. 7,250 students from different high schools and universities joined together at the Gaspar Mass Stadium. The record was endorsed by the Notary Public Jamie Garza de la Garza.

The original goal was to have 10,000 students read the poem, but university officials were still pleased with the turn-out.

At the end of the event the students enjoyed a concert given by a musical group called "La Firma".
