Two men are being hailed as heroes for risking their own lives.

They are being credited with pulling a 4-year-old and a woman from an SUV that crashed into a retention pond on Wednesday near Beaver and Lee streets.

"I heard a crash behind me when I looked back I saw an SUV going into the water, I turned around parked it," said Eric Sanchez.

Running into a retention pond and throwing caution aside, Sanchez and Donald Jackson tried to help the two people trapped inside a sinking SUV at 900 West Beaver Street.
"I'm yelling at him 'give me your hand, give me your hand.' He didn't want to move, he was that frightened," Jackson said.
Half of the car is full of water -- and continuing to rise -- as Jackson pulled the four-year-old-child out of the back of the car -- yelling for Shirley Burris, the woman in the front seat.

But instead of grabbing for his arm,she grabs his neck, and they all went under.

Sanchez then ran over and helped all three make it out of the pond safely and over to the shore.

"I'm not no angel, I'm not no hero, I just want to help out," Sanchez said.

Both men say their instincts took over after a car crash sent the SUV into the pond. Witnesses say it collided with a Ford Focus on Beaver and Lee streets.

"When I say my heart was pounding, like my heart felt like it was going to come out of my shirt, I was really grasping for breath," Jackson said.

And if it wasn't for the quick action of both men, this accident could have had a deadly outcome.
