Rome, Italy -- The rumor mill is in full swing as the world waits for Catholic Cardinals to elect a new pope.

Saturday, Pope Benedict XIV thanked members of the Vatican's central administration for their support during his time in office.

It is one of his last engagements before he retires February 28th.

Meanwhile, several Cardinals are denouncing explosive headlines in Italian newspapers quoting un-named sources that include allegations of Vatican infighting, conspiracies and blackmail.

American Cardinal Timothy Dolan had this to say: You know whenever you have a transition you get tons of rumors, all these whispers, most of them are not true."
