Toyota is vowing to make vehicle information more accessible under an agreement it is announcing Thursday with attorneys general in 29 states over the way it conducted its recalls.

The agreement is an outgrowth of the rash of recalls that Toyota announced in 2010. The highest-profile ones dealt with allegations of unintended acceleration, but Toyota was criticized for not divulging details of problems fast enough to meet federal recall law requirements.

"Resolving this inquiry is another step we are taking to turn the page on legacy issues from Toyota?s past recalls in a way that benefits our customers," says Toyota General Counsel Christopher Reynolds.

Under the agreement, Toyota says it will not only be more forthcoming with vehicle information, but keep its rapid-response teams to immediately tackle problems that could spread into larger recall and expand its product-quality field offices.
