ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Charges have been filed against a man accused of a St. Louis school shooting.
Sean Maurice Johnson, 34, has been charged with first-degree assault, felony armed criminal action, felony unlawful possession of a firearm, and misdemeanor possession of a defaced firearm.
The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon at Stevens Institute of Business and Arts, located in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue.
Authorities say Johnson is a former student of the school and went to the building on Monday to apply for financial aid to continue his studies. His financial aid was denied, and police say Johnson returned on Tuesday and shot financial aid director Greg Elsenrath.
Elsenrath was taken to an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police say Johnson shot himself as police approached him in a stairwell between the third and fourth floors.
A handgun was recovered from the scene.
