Louisville, KY (WLKY) -- An investigation is underway after a school bus full of children crashed into a car.
The crash happened Monday afternoon on Brownsboro Road and Drescher Bridge Avenue. A section of Brownsboro was shut down for a couple hours following the crash.
A lot of people who live in the area said they're surprised these kinds of crashes do not happen more often.
"I heard her hit the brakes, the squealing of the tires and then it sounded like an explosion," said neighbor Kim Schelink.
The crash happened when a Jefferson County Public School bus full of children tried to make a left turn. A white hatchback couldn't stop in time and hit the bus in full force. The impact was so intense it took about an hour before crews manage to get her out.
As that was happening, 15 children who were on their way home from Chenoweth Elementary School were still inside the bus. One by one they were taken off. Some parents even went to the scene themselves.
Three children were taken to the hospital by their parents as a precaution. The rest were loaded on another bus that took them home. The only other person injured was the bus driver.
Now, investigators are trying to determine whether the bus shouldn't have turned or if this car was speeding.
