New York, NY -- A tourist visiting New York City snapped a picture thats going viral.

In the picture, you can see New York City Police Officer Larry DePrimo talking to a homeless man. He saw the man sitting barefoot in the cold two weeks ago and asked if he needed help. DePrimo said, "Here he didn't even have a pair of socks to his name, and he had the heart to say God bless me. It was absolutely, it was just inspiring."

So DePrimo took a step he didn't have to. He went into a nearby Sketchers store and bought the man a pair of socks and brand new shoes.

DePrimo said he didn't get the man's name, but he remembered his reaction to the shoes. "He looked me right in the face and the smile went from ear to ear. And again he said God bless me and he said, you know, be safe. And I just couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth. You know for such a small gesture, you know, he was so appreciative."

The shoe store's manager said they even gave the officer the employee discount for the purchase.

Officer DePrimo says he keeps the receipt in his bulletproof vest as a reminder of those less fortunate. And he hopes people hearing about his gesture are inspired to help others less fortunate as well.
