Hillsborough, NC -- A man charged in the fatal hit-and-run of a radio sports reporter was found not guilty Friday.
Rabah Samara faced felony charges in the death of Stephen Gates, the Tar Heels Sports Network's football sideline reporter. Gates was killed October 4 as he stopped to check a flat tire on an entrance ramp to Interstate 40.
Authorities say Samara took the wheel of the sports utility vehicle and left the scene after Emily Elizabeth Caveness, who was originally driving the SUV, stopped to see what had happened.
Caveness was charged with two counts of hit-and-run, but she pleaded guilty in August to a misdemeanor charge of failure to report an accident. She has not been sentenced.
