GREENSBORO, NC -- Fire crews spent the time  Friday morning on South Elm street continuing the investigation into Thursday's fire at the auto business at 811 S. Elm Street.

The fire  started around 1pm and created a cloud of smoke over downtown Greensboro. Four firefighters suffered injuries while trying to put out the flames. Three have been released from the hospital.

The state mandates this type of business have an inspection every three years but Greensboro fire has inspected it almost every year.

Fire marshals told 2WTK it's because the business has a paint spray booth for cars that needs to be inspected every year by another agency.
Greensboro fire likes to make sure it happens.

The last general fire inspection of 811 S. Elm  was July 9, 2013. It was a clean inspection.

But in 2012, the general inspection found a couple of violations. The business stored mattresses near heaters and those mattresses needed to be moved.

The fire suppression system on that paint spray booth needed to be serviced and tested.
The fire marshal 2WTK talked with said these were common violations. They repaired both violations when the building was re-inspected.

The list of inspections show since 2000 this building had eight general inspections. They've also had five re-inspections for violations...and one inspection specifically to check the auto extinguishing system.
