Captain Suddarth was initially treated at Cone Hospital but doctors thought he needed the specialized care at Baptist Medical Center.

It has one of only two burn centers in the state.

Captain Suddarth has other injuries in addition to the burns but no word on what those are yet.

Captain Suddarth has been with the Greensboro Fire Department for 15 years and has been a Captain for the past 6.

He works at Fire Station 11 on South Elm-Eugene Street.

His colleagues say he is a "stellar" officer who is very involved in the fire department.

Assistant Chief Hunter told WFMY News 2 Captain Suddarth is working on his Masters degree and helps the department write grants.

As of Thursday evening, Hunter says Suddarth's condition is good. He was one of the first firefighters to respond to the fire at the auto shop on South Elm Street.

He was inside in the building when it collapsed Thursday afternoon.

Suddarth was the most seriously injured of the four firefighters hospitalized.

He will remain hospitalized overnight.
