DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- The Davidson County Sheriff's Office says a drug roundup called "Operation Joint Venture" has led to the indictment of 69 people.

They say it's just the beginning of an on-going crackdown to end drug abuse.

Davidson County Sheriff David Grice said Friday a Davidson County Grand Jury indicted the people in the Davidson, Randolph and Rowan counties for 234 drug charges.

Investigators say the arrests stem from a six-month undercover investigation involving the Davidson County Vice and Narcotics Unit. They focused on drug trafficking heroin, crack cocaine, prescription pills and marijuana that was sold in the county. Investigators say tips from citizens, Crime Stoppers, informants and surveillance was used for the grand jury's indictments.

Deputies began the arrests Friday. They have arrested 60 people who now face charges. Three of those arrested were already in jail.

Sheriff Grice said multiple law enforcement agencies helped in the investigation.
