WENTWORTH, N.C. -- A Rockingham County Superior Court Judge sentenced a man convicted of setting an apartment on fire.
On Friday, Charles Jacob Rumley, was sentenced to 64 - 89 months in the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Rumley received the maximum sentenced for First Degree Arson after being found guilty by the jury.
Fire investigators say Rumley confessed to setting a fire at the Lassiter Square Apartments in Madison on September 11, 2012. He told them he poured gasoline in the corner of a bedroom and lit a cigarette. At the time of the fire eight people were inside including a child. They all got out safely but they lost all their belongings.
Rumley was also ordered to pay $59,026.13 in restitution.
