GREENSBORO, N.C.-- What happens when a NASCAR legend and some Greensboro police officers show up at the same restaurant? Let's just say a very popular camp benefits from the outcome.

That said, don't expect to witness blue lights and fast cars, but do expect to see NASCAR legend Richard Petty and Greensboro police officers asking diners for donations at the Outback Steakhouse on Westover Terrace Wednesday night.

The fundraiser will run from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Wednesday. All money collected will benefit Victory Junction Camp (VJC), which is a year-round camping facility in Randleman that serves children ages six to 16 with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.

The camp opened in 2004, and more than 17,600 children from around the world have enjoyed supervised camping activities at no cost to the families.

Petty, one of the founding fathers of Victory Junction, will sign autographs between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Greensboro police officers will help serve meals and non-alcoholic beverages to Outback Steakhouse guests.
