MT. AIRY, N.C. - Northern Hospital of Surry County is restricting visitors because of increased flu cases in the area.

The hospital is temporarily restricting allowing anyone under the age of 18 from visiting patients.

These visitors cannot wait in the lobby areas, waiting rooms, or classrooms.

Earlier this week, Duke Hospital announced it was restricting visitors for the same reason.

Three people have died in Guilford County because of the flu so far this season.

The CDC is reporting positive flu tests in the Southest increased nearly 23-percent this week.

Symptoms of the flu include body aches, fevers, and chills. You might also have congestion, nausea and a cough.

The North Carolina DHHS encourages everyone to use personal precautions to protect against the spread of flu and other viruses:

-Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and then discard the tissue promptly.

-Wash hands frequently, preferably with soap and water or an approved hand sanitizer.

-Stay home when you are sick until you are fever free for at least 24 hours.
