WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A Winston-Salem Police officer is on Administrative Duty after firing his weapon during a vehicle stop early Wednesday morning. The Winston-Salem Police Department says Sgt. Lentz pulled over a vehicle matching the same description as one that was stolen during an Armed Robbery on Tuesday.

The officer was in a marked patrol car when he got out of it in the 200 block of Pine Tree Road. The driver in the pulled over vehicle got out of his car and pointed a gun at Sgt. Lentz. That's when Lentz fired his gun toward the driver. But both the driver and the passenger inside the vehicle got away.

Police officers have not been able to find the suspects. Sgt. Lentz was not injured in the incident. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is taking over the investigation. The Professional Standards Division will also be looking into the incident.

Lentz is a 24 year veteran with the Winston-Salem Police Department.

If you have any information call the Winston-Salem Police Department at (336)773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at (336)727-2800.
