EDEN, N.C. -- Eden Police say a man is in custody after he kidnapped and assaulted his ex-girlfriend early Sunday morning.
Officers tell WFMY News 2 they responded to Baymont Inn Hotel at 4:30 a.m. After an investigation and interviews at the scene, they concluded Derick Hairston drug his ex-girlfriend to a car in the Walmart parking lot behind the hotel, forced her in the car, and drove away.
Investigators said they then concluded Hairston and the victim went to a residence in the 800 block of Holland Street in Eden after leaving the parking lot behind the hotel.
After arriving at the residence on Holland Street, negotiations began with Hairston. Police said at 10:50 a.m., the victim left the residence and was transported to Morehead Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
Negotiations concluded with Hairston a little after 11 a.m. when he left the residence and was taken into police custody without incident.
Officers tell WFMY News 2 Derick Hairston has been charged with one count of First Degree Kidnapping and one count of Domestic Assault.
Police said their investigation also revealed Hairston had 2 outstanding warrants for Felony Probation Violation and 1 outstanding Order For Arrest for PWISD Schedule II Controlled Substance and Sell and Delivery of Schedule II Controlled Substance.
Hairston was taken to the Wentworth Magistrates Office and placed in Rockingham County Jail.
Officers say he is scheduled to appear in Wentworth District Court on January 14, 2014.
Hairston is under a $100,000 secured bond for the probation violation charges and no bond for First Degree Kidnapping and Domestic Assault.
