CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say detectives seized about 40 illegal gaming machines and more than $4,400 in cash from a sweepstakes parlor.
The Charlotte Observer reports that detectives also seized marijuana and charged two parlor employees with drug possession. More charges are possible.
The operators of sweepstakes parlors had until Dec. 1 to close or face prosecution.
Police served a search warrant Friday on the Woodlawn Road business, which the police news release did not name.
Legislators made sweepstakes machines illegal in 2010. After years of appeals by software companies, the state Supreme Court upheld the law in late 2012.
Last week, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police seized 78 sweepstakes machines and more than $3,500 in cash from J&W Business Center.
