CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WCNC) -- One person has been arrested and a second suspect is still on the loose after a standoff at Graham and Trade streets in uptown.
Police say Friday morning's events began with a carjacking, when a woman was robbed of her vehicle at gunpoint around 1 a.m. in the 2100 block of Diamond Creek Circle.
A description of the vehicle was broadcast to officers, when, about 4:15, CMPD says officers began following a car similar to the one reported stolen. The vehicle had two occupants, police say, when it was spotted on Statesville Avenue in southwest Charlotte.
The car crashed into the vacant old Pope Building at Graham and Trade streets.
Police believe both suspects ran inside the building, one of which they believe to be still inside. It remains an active scene as officers use loudspeakers to communicate with the suspects.
NBC Charlotte reporter Glenn Counts confirms one person has been arrested. The search for the second suspect continues.
Panthers back-up QB Derek Anderson live-tweeted the events from his uptown home.
As of 9 a.m., all lanes of West Trade Street and northbound Graham Street reopened for thru traffic; Southbound lanes of Graham Street between West 5th Street and West Trade Street will remain closed for building repairs.
