ASHEBORO, N.C. -- The North Carolina Zoo's second polar bear has died.
Wilhelm, also known as Willie, was living in the Milwaukee County Zoo in Wisconsin while the polar bear living quarters in N.C. was being renovated. The zoo invested $8.5 million to expand their exhibit.
The N.C. Zoo announced Tuesday that Willie was euthanized because he was sick. He was 28 years old.
Doctors will complete a necropsy - an animal autopsy - to determine his exact cause of death.
In September, the N.C. Zoo's other polar bear, Aquila, died unexpectedly.
