LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix is coming to Winston-Salem.

The Florida-based grocery store chain announced Friday it will enter the Winston-Salem market and add another store to Mecklenburg County.

The 49,000-square-foot store is slated to open at 34 Miller Street in 2015. Covered parking will be available below the store.

Another store will open in Cornelius in the Magnolia Plaza in 2014.

Publix is opening its first stores in North Carolina between 2014 and 2015. Among them are two stores in the greater Charlotte area, one in Ballantyne, one in Cary and one in Asheville.

In a statement, Publix said they plan to "aggressively look for additional locations throughout the state." No plans have been announced for Greensboro or additional locations in the Triad at this time.

Publix currently has stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. The privately-owned grocery store chain employs about 160,000.
