Nelson, VA-- The Nelson County Commonwealth's Attorney Anthony Martin announced an arrest in the case of missing 17-year-old Alexis Murphy. This comes as family, friends and law enforcement continue to look for her.
WTVR is reporting that the FBI has confirmed the arrest of Randy Allen Taylor,48, of Lovingston, VA. Taylor is charged with Abduction of Murphy. He was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon at his home.
Alexis Murphy was last seen on August 3. Her car was found in the parking lot of an old Carmike Theatre in Charlottesville Tuesday, August 6. FBI agents and state police said they focused on the Cannery Loop neighborhood, just right off Route 29, in Nelson County because that is where Murphy's cell phone hit a cell phone tower.
"We continue to seek information from anyone who may have seen anything of interest on the day of Alexis' disappearance," Special Agent in Charge of the Richmond Division of the FBI Jeff Mazanec said. "We are also looking for any information the public may have regarding suspect Randy Taylor prior to the disappearance of Alexis on Aug. 3 and anything regarding his activities or involvement that might prove helpful to this investigation."
Although he was never charged, Taylor told media outlets that police believed he was a suspect in the 2010 disappearance of Orange woman Samantha Clarke.
Investigators are asking anyone who knows or recognizes Taylor to contact the Nelson County Sheriff's Office at 464 263 7050.
