BURLINGTON, N.C. -- A man in Burlington was arrested Sunday afternoon for impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Police said they investigated reports that led them to Arnold Wayne Southern, 59, for about three months. They said he wore a uniform with a security services emblem and carried a firearm while posing as a private security officer.
Investigators received reports of Southern's activity in the Morningside Drive area and the East Brooke Apartments. They said Southern drove a white van and stopped community members, questioning their actions.
Southern has never been a licensed security officer, according to the police department, and he was never hired by the apartment complex for security purposes.
Southern was arrested and charged with Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer. He was taken to the Alamance County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (336) 229-7100.
