GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Twenty students graduating from Guilford Technical Community College's Aviation Systems Technology Program have started work at TIMCO Aviation Services.
Andy Halsey, Vice President of Human Resources at TIMCO, said in a statement on Monday, "This is one of the largest groups of graduates we have hired from GTCC at one time. We always prefer to hire from our local community, and GTCC continues to be a great partner to help us fill the need we have for highly skilled employees."
The graduates began August 1. They will complete a 5-week training program - developed by GTCC and TIMCO - to address maintenance, repair and overhaul of planes specific to TIMCO's clients.
TIMCO is an aircraft service provider for global aircraft operators and owners. In April, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners approved a $400,000 incentive package for the aviation company to expand its operations at Piedmont Triad-International Airport. The expansion would bring 400 new full-time jobs to Guilford County over the next five years.
