Greensboro, N.C. - Storm water drains do a good job preventing flooding, and even with our current weather, Greensboro staffers say the system is working well.
But even when there's this much rain, you still can't guarantee the drain will get the job done. It doesn't help that some of Greensboro's storm water pipes are 100 years old.
Each year, the city spends $1.5 million replacing and repairing the storm water system. That money is applied to about 1,000 miles of storm water pipes in Greensboro.
Pipes are also inspected often to make sure they're not clogged with plastic bags or any other trash.
