Yanceyville, NC -- A drunk driver ran a Caswell County sheriff's deputy off the road and led him on a chase, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputy K.T. Underwood was driving north on HWY 86 shortly after 2 am Sunday when, he reported, a driver crossed the center line, hit his vehicle and caused him to drive off the right shoulder of the road.
Underwood said he tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver, Eli Roblero Morales, led him on a chase, driving faster than 100 mph.
Morales came to a stop after he struck the median after he tried to turn on Park Springs Road, according to the sheriff's office.
Morales was charged with Felony Speed to Elude, Felony Assault with Deadly Weapon on Government Official, Injury to Personal Property, Open Container of Alcohol, No Operators License, Left of Center, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and DWI. He was taken to the Caswell County Detention Facility and was issued a $49,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. His vehicle was also seized by the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office said nobody was injured during the incident, but they estimate more than $1,000 damage was done to the patrol car.
