Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro City Council will hold a meeting Wednesday morning to vote on an 11 p.m. curfew for people under the age of 18. If approved, the curfew would take effect immediately and would last about 60 days.

Mayor Robbie Perkins said there were about 500 people in downtown Greensboro last weekend when fights broke out.  "We can't have fights breaking out among 300, 400 or 500 people breaking out in our downtown. That's not acceptable. We're going to do what we have to do to keep that from occurring," Perkins said.

Police arrested 11 people involved in three to five different fights. The people involved ranged from 16 to 20-years-old. Charges include "Assault on Law Enforcement" and "Inciting a Riot." Officers said the incident was not a riot, but people were acting in a way that could have resulted in a riot.

Greensboro Police Chief Ken Miller said, "The behavior is unacceptable. It frightens residents in our city. It undermines the good work of the men and women on the police department who have actually made Center City much safer." Later, Chief Miller added, "This is a problem for police. But, it's not a police problem. It's a community problem. We have to get it right as a community. Until everybody steps up to the plate to do their part, we are going to continue to have problems."

Someone also fired a shot toward another person, but did not hit anyone. Investigators have not yet found a weapon or the person who pulled the trigger.

Greensboro Police Captain Joel Cranford said, "There could be a lot of consequences if it's not dealt with quickly and appropriately. As the commander for the downtown area, I am concerned about how we approach this problem and how we deal with it."

Police said they will double the number of downtown officers for the days surrounding the Fourth of July holiday from 25 to 50 because of the recent events.
