Greensboro, NC - Unemployment in North Carolina is dropping slightly from last year, but the numbers don't show the entire picture. Many people gave up looking or took a job just to get by but are now applying once again in hopes of finding something better suited to their skills.
Two of those job seekers agreed to be guinea pigs for 2 Wants to Know this week. We'll use their cases to walk you through some key strategies for getting a new job or getting a better position within your current company.
Meet Wanda Johnson:
"I am one of the underemployed people. I have a masters degree in speech and language therapy. We had a family emergency and I opted to be with my child. I've been working with temporary services from packing to filing. Just about anything I could do to provide for my family. I'm anxious to get back to what I really like to do."
And Tometta Kemp:
"I lost my job in 2010. For the past two years I've been selling real estate and insurance. I've enjoyed the flexibility of being a sales person, but I'm looking for something a little more stable. I'm looking for a job in logistics or supply chain management. It just seems like the field is wide open and a great opportunity."
As Wanda and Tometta go through the process you will get to connect to what they'll learn this week - from body language tips whether it's in an interview or a simple conversation with your boss to selling yourself without sounding pushy. It's all on the week of 5-13 on 2 Wants To Know at 5:30.
