Yanceyville, NC-- Deputies in Caswell County are investigating a drowning that happened Sunday afternoon while the victim was fishing.
The Caswell County 911 Center received a call around 4:04 p.m. about a man who was fishing at a farm pond and had fallen into the water. Emergency crews responded to the call at the pond located on Blackwell Road in Yanceyville, NC but they couldn't locate the man.
Because of the depth of the water, a dive and rescue team out of Danville was dispatched to the location. Caswell county crews continued to search until the dive team arrived. After arriving on scene, the Danville Lifesaving Dive Team entered the water where the victim was last seen by witnesses and within minutes they located the man in approximately fifteen feet of water.
Rescuers performed CPR but the victim was later pronounced dead at Danville Regional Medical Center. He's been identified as Joshua Lamont Hardy, 23 of Park Springs Road in Ruffin, NC.
Investigators sent Hardy's body to Roanoke, VA for an autopsy. No foul play is suspected and the case remains under investigation pending the autopsy results.
The Caswell County Sheriff's Office also extends their condolences to the family of Joshua Hardy.
