Greensboro, NC -- The Greensboro Coliseum is benefiting from an action packed start to the month of March. More than 97,000 people visited the Greensboro Coliseum Complex from Tuesday, March 5 through Sunday, March 10.
Of all the events scheduled during that time, the 2013 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament was the most popular event, attracting 61,809 fans. FanFest alone brought in 15,799 fans.
But it wasn't just college hoops in the spotlight. The North Carolina High School Athletic Association Western Regional Championships brought in a crowd of 10,375 people during those five days. Plus, it wouldn't be basketball without the cheerleaders. A crowd of 2,156 watched the Cheer and Dance exhibition.
The laughter of the Royal Comedy Tour at the War Memorial Auditorium brought in a crowd of 1,489 on Friday evening.
Swimming made a splash with 1,114 swimmers in four of those days at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. A crowd of 7,430 watched the STAR Aquatics Age Group Sectionals.
"This past weekend is a perfect example of the incredible versatility of this multi-venue Complex allows us to host a wide variety of simultaneous events that attract an incredibly diverse audience," said Matt Brown, the Coliseum's managing director.
Brown added, "Weekends such as this are a prime example of why this facility is such a vital part of our community and the leading economic generators for our region."
Now the Coliseum will turn its focus to the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament. It takes place from March 14 - 17. It marks the third time in the last four years and the 24th time overall, the most of any city that it's hosted the tournament.
