Friday, February 1st marks the 10th Annual National Wear Red Day sponsored by the American Heart Association. Community members are encouraged to take a stance against heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, and go red!
Triad businesses and organizations joined the cause by showing their support with Macy's, BB&T, and Forsyth Medical Center, for example, doing so with red lights and displays.
In conjunction with National Wear Day, various events took place throughout the Triad, including the Annual Winston-Salem Goes Red Breakfast at Forsyth Medical Center's Conference Center from 7:30-9 am, in collaboration with Red HEARRT from 9-11 am, Circle of Red Luncheon at the Proximity Hotel at 12 pm, and Zumba Flashmob at Hanes Mall from 4:30-6 pm.
A Guinness Book of World Records first will be attempted on Friday with the largest Zumbatomic Class (a form of Zumba aerobics for children under the age of 15) ever held as Red H.E.A.R.R.T kicks off its "WS/FCS Go Red & Get Moving" challenge. The 28 day challenge in February aims to promote children's activity and health in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, motivating the 18 students who have signed up to move more, eat healthier, and get a better night's sleep. The American Heart Association is looking forward to another great Wear Red Day, one that is sure to go down in the record books!
