Ashe County, NC -- The man charged with murdering Jonesville Police Sgt. Greg Martin 16 years ago, is now in a North Carolina jail.
Scott Sica was extradited from Florida and was booked into the Ashe County jail around dinner time on Friday. Investigators arrested Sica at his Fort Myers home.
Sica's lawyer, Stu Pepper, says his client did not kill Martin.
Pepper told News 2's sister newspaper, News-Press in Ft. Myers, FL, Sica didn't even know about Martin's murder until he was arrested last week. The lawyer said Sica was surprised by the arrest, and that officers still haven't shown the two any evidence police have against Sica.
On Oct. 5, 1996, Martin, 30, of the Jonesville Police Department, saw a man police now believe was Sica standing behind a strip mall near the highway.
Police say the man drove away, and Martin pulled him over around 2:40 a.m. A state trooper later found Martin lying on the side of the road with multiple gunshots to the head; the shots were close-range.
Sica is charged with first-degree murder.
