Denton, NC -- Students and community members are rallying to get the attention of Univ. of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban as they work to honor a local legend.

South Davidson's head football and wrestling coach Mike Crowell died Sunday. He was a big Alabama fan. And to honor a man who touched hundreds of lives, the community is hoping to get Saban to South's homecoming football game on Friday.

On Twitter, they've been using the hashtag #sabanforcrowell. You can share WFMY News 2's post on Facebook to help get the word out. Some people have also posted on Saban's Facebook fan page.

Alabama has not said whether Coach Saban will attend the game, but a representative has told WFMY News 2 that the football office is working to find a way to reach out to the community somehow.
