Greensboro, NC -- Monday morning, people living in Lassiter Square Apartments in Madison woke up to smoke and flames in their apartment. Police said Jacob Rumley went into the building and helped several people to safety.
After further investigation, police arrested Rumley and charged him with arson for setting that fire. The fire displaced nine families. Rumley is now in jail. Police say they don't have a motive.
But we wanted to dig a little deeper to look into what makes someone set fires, and try to save the people whose lives are in danger for that action.
Dr. Nannett Funderburk with the Social Emotional Learning Group joined Frank Mickens to talk about that topic on WFMY News 2 at 11:00. While she isn't able to talk about Rumley's thought-process specifically, she did address some of the factors usually contributing to pyromania.
