Greensboro - The opening of McNair Elementary School in Browns Summit has seen construction delay after construction delay, and the school opening may be delayed even further after the contracting company was fired by the Guilford County School Board.

Monday night, the school board decided to put the contracting company, Farley Associates, Inc., in default for failure to complete the job on time.

The project is now under the control of a bond surety company. These companies are hired in the event a contracting company is not able to finish a job on time, which is the case with McNair Elementary.

The bond surety company is now looking for the fastest ways to finish the school, but this could mean further delays in the school opening.

In August, attorneys for the contracting company sent a letter to the Guilford County School board that states construction would be completed by October 31st.

Because Farley Associates is no longer working on the project, delays could be involved while a new contractor is found.

News 2's Faith Abubey is investigating Farley Associates' background; speaking with former clients of the company and checking with state licensing agents. She'll have updates here on digtriad.com.

Also, News 2's Mark Geary would like to speak with parent of students who were slated to start this school year at McNair. You may contact him at mgeary@wfmy.com
