Greensboro, NC-- It's been a long time coming, but it's official, a grocery store is opening in downtown Greensboro.
At 9:30 on Thursday morning, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new Deep Roots Market store. It is expected to open in early 2013.
The 10,600 square foot store will be located in the 600 block of North Eugene Street.
The store, situated directly on the Downtown Greenway, will be about four times the size of the current store location and easily accessible for drivers, bikers, and pedestrians.
What can you expect? According to a company news release, Deep Roots Market will feature fresh meats and cheeses; beer and wine; a café, deli, hot bar and salad bar; a community room; and a patio with free wi-fi. In its current location, Deep Roots Market is known for natural foods groceries, including organically-grown produce, specialty foods, an extensive bulk foods department, and supplements.
Deep Roots Market was founded in 1976 as a cooperative, and has grown at its current 2,400 square-foot location on Spring Garden Street to about 2000 owners, with thousands more regular shoppers.
