Greensboro, N.C. - Is it legal for some of the tenants to live at Cascades Grandview? The building is currently zoned as a private dormitory for college students according to the City of Greensboro.

The city's zoning administrator says Cascades leased apartments to people who are not students, which means, it must meet different zoning requirements.

If those requirements cannot be met what happens?

"We have to cross that bridge when we come to it. I don't know the answer to that question," Zoning Administrator Mike Kirkman said.

News 2 asked Kirkman how the complex avoided meeting the proper zoning requirements up until this point. Kirkman responded, "We are complaint driven for the most part. We don't have the staff and the resources to proactively go out and evaluate these kinds of situations, but once something comes to our attention, we'll try to take care of it."

One option could involve converting it back to a dormitory. Construction or remodeling may also be necessary. Or, it may simply just require some paperwork to get the building zoned properly.

A 172 page lawsuit filed Monday essentially took the complex away from the previous management company and shifted control to a court appointed receiver.

Tuesday, the receiver passed out a letter to tenants. The letter says, "It is our goal to correct the problems and strive to ensure that Cascades Grandview is a place you want to call home. We sincerely apologize for all that you have been through in the recent past."

The new managers also invited tenants to a pizza party a few hours ago. News 2 asked to be there, but was not allowed.
