Charlotte, NC -- It's a happy ending to a story News 2 first brought you last year.
Shari Vassello received a kidney transplant Friday afternoon.
She invited News 2 into her home last year as she began her search for a donor on Facebook.
She got the call Thursday night the hospital found a match and was in surgery by Friday afternoon.
Her husband says she's doing well and her body is accepting the new organ.
"You don't have to worry about going on dialysis, you don't have to worry about what's going to happen in the next months or years, and you know struggling to see what you can do, I mean this is truly a wonderful gift, we just feel so blessed this happened. It's truly God's will," said Doug Vasello, Shari's husband.
Shari did not end up finding her kidney on Facebook. She found her donor the more traditional way.
But the Vasello's say they were able to meet great friends on her Facebook page and share their stories.
Shari is expected to be released from Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte early next week.
