(Zhejiang Province, China) -- Typhoon Haikui claimed three lives as floodwaters swept through eastern China, state media reported on Thursday (August 9).
Haikui, which weakened to a tropical storm by Wednesday (August 8) afternoon, killed two in Shanghai and one in the neighbouring Anhui province, the official Xinhua news agency said.
More than 1.5 million people in eastern China's Zhejiang were evacuated.
State television CCTV on Wednesday(August 8) showed waters sweeping through Zhejiang province's Anji county.
Rescuers had to evacuate thousands trapped in the county's rural areas on Wednesday, CCTV reported.
Haikui has destroyed over 4000 houses and caused economic losses of more than 10 billion yuan ($1.57 billion USD), Xinhua reported, quoting provincial authorities.
