Summerfield, NC -- Robert "Rocky" Smith would never ask for what happened.

But he'll be the first to tell you it was God's plan and it's been the most unusual blessing.

November 20, 2011, Smith's ex-wife Mary Ann Holder killed five children before she turned the gun on herself.

Her actions cost Rocky his two sons, his niece and nephew. His son's girlfriend was the fifth victim -- 17-year-old Robert "Dylan" Smith, 15-year-old Zachary Smith, 17-year old Richard Suttles, 8-year-old Hannaleigh Suttles and 15-year-old Makayla Woods.

Rocky will tell you he almost collapsed seeing the results of Holder's actions.

But he chose to forgive her. And that's what he credits for his healing.

And in the wake of the theater shootings in Aurora, CO, Rocky says forgiveness and purpose will help everyone move forward in a positive way.

In his case, he found purpose by dedicating his singing ministry to sharing his testimony of healing, warning others about the dangers of domestic violence and talking about the virtues of organ donation.
