Greensboro, NC - When the idea for a Greensboro Greenway was first proposed in 2001, city leaders had ambitious goals for a four mile trail that would encircle downtown, and that goal is one step closer to reality as the Greenway nears completion of phase one.

On Monday, leaders of the project will host a public meeting from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Action Greensboro office, located at 317 South Elm Street in downtown Greensboro.

Leaders of the project say it is more than just a beautiful park, and that it will help pump money into the Greensboro economy.

They estimate that for every dollar spent on the Greenway, six to twelve dollars are added to the Greensboro economy.

Additionally, Greenway leaders point to successes in other cities who have added parks and greenways to their cities.

Boulder, CO built a Greenway that it is estimated added $500,000 in property tax value, property values in Charlotte rose by four percent following the construction of the Carolina Thread Trail, and in Seattle, the city estimates parks increased the property value by $1.6 billion.

The Greensboro Greenway will be completed by approximately 2016, and upon completion, connect 12 neighborhoods.
