(Raleigh, NC) -- The North Carolina Senate has delayed a vote to legalize fracking for the second day in a row.

The measure to postpone the hydraulic fracturing vote was made Wednesday after an unscheduled discussion and debate to rework the Racial Justice Act. The fracking bill is now slated for a vote today.

The bill quickly made its way through the legislature and generated almost no debate in committees or in the Senate. The bill faced vocal opposition in the House and from various environmental groups.

Opponents say hydraulic fracturing will harm the environment and violate private property rights. Supporters say fracking would create jobs and allow the state to utilize domestic energy.

Gov. Bev Perdue will likely get the final say, and has previously indicated support for fracking.
