Winston Salem, NC--For drummer Melvin Turner, Tony  'Kick' Smallwood, was more than just  a fellow drummer, he was his mentor and also his very best friend.

That why, after Tony's  terrible big rig accident in Virginia two months ago which left his friend with  traumatic brain injuries and medical bills, Melvin gathered as many musical acts as possible to stage a concert and raise money for Tony.

The benefit was staged at Ziggy's in Winston Salem and featured the bands: Black and Blue, Phase Band,  Signature Sound, and the Executives to name  a few. The bands and the club donated there time and talents to help Tony.

Sonya Smallwood, Tonys wife say's Tony has  a long way to go, but he  is making progress everyday. In fact , there was  a chance he could have  attended the concert , but his doctors advised against it. She also say's this concert is something that her husband would have done because he is always there to lend  a hand .
