Greensboro, NC -- The average American will spend $152 dollars on mom this Mother's Day, up from $140 last year, the National Retail Federation reports.

Where's all that money going? The NRF says two-thirds of people surveyed plan to buy mom flowers this weekend, more than half of consumers will take her out to dinner or brunch and a third of respondents will buy their moms a new blouse or sweater. The NRF says 13 percent of consumers will buy mom a new tablet or digital camera. And trips to the spa help push the total we'll all spend on mom to $18.6 billion dollars. That's an eight percent increase over 2011.

But what sort of gifts do moms appreciate the most? We asked that question on the WFMY News 2 Facebook page and some of the answers we got don't cost a thing.

Joyce Marie wrote that she'll be happy with "just a phone call." Cathy Vanhoy is looking forward to "time [spent] with my son and mother." And Pamela Denise Hinchee wrote that she loves "gifts that my girls make for me."
